                                   INTERNATIONAL AFFAIRS

The Committee on International Affairs serves as a liaison between the Chamber and the international business community by encouraging foreign trade, disseminating information relating to foreign business, organizing trade missions, and promoting new import/export businesses.

The Chamber's first trade mission was actually to the west coast cities of Seattle, San Francisco, and Los Angeles in 1962.

In 1963, Chamber president Barney Menor led the first trade mission to the Philippines. Other trade missions followed over the years with various government officials leading the trade missions such as Governor George Ariyoshi (1975, 1977, 1984), Congressman Cec Heftel (1979), Mayor Jeremy Harris (1995), Lt. Governor Mazie Hirono (1999), and Governor Linda Lingle (2006).

In addition to organizing outgoing trade missions, the Chamber has hosted a number of incoming missions. In 1993, the first incoming Trade Mission from the Philippines was organized by the Philippine Chamber of Commerce & Industry and the Cebu Chamber of Commerce & Industry. In 1999, the Chamber hosted the Bicol Investment Mission co-sponsored by the Philippine Department of Tourism. In 2000, the Chamber hosted a trade mission delegation from Cagayan de Oro and established a sister chamber relationship with the Cagayan de Oro Chamber of Commerce.
